Porto Weather is classified as temperate and typical of the Mediterranean region. Portugal’s second largest city, Porto (also known as Oporto) is located on the northern coast of the country and is blessed with cool summers and substantially rainy winters.
Porto Weather during the summer season is unsurprisingly sunny and hot. Temperatures usually oscillate between 15 °C and 25 °C, soaring to highs of 35 °C when heat waves make their presence felt. Unfortunately heat waves are usually associated with nearby forest fires that bring ash and haze to the city, making breathing somewhat uncomfortable.
On the upside, weather in Porto during summer is also renewed for its low humidity levels thanks to the calming influence of gentle breezes that blow in from the ocean. The predominantly fine weather is occasionally by spells of rainfalls that can last for a few days at a time. Falling mainly during the afternoon, rain brings along a drop in temperature that usually hovers around a cool 20 °C.
By mid-September the rainy season is well and truly on its way. Peaking in December (with an average of 18 inches) the rainy season runs through all the way to May, although it tends to ease off considerably in March.
Even during the winter season, Porto Weather remains relatively mild, especially in comparison to northern European locations. Even in January – by far the coldest month of the year – temperatures hardly ever take a nose dive, averaging as his as 13°C during the day.
